oh i love this. i love this. the way when it first starts up and you see the controls and the immediate reaction is "oh we gotta hide in this ooohkayyy", the sound effect used for karen's gasp genuinely being a little startling in its volume and suddenness and how it really matches her reaction (and also just. swearing when chad is right there and not caring about it), the fact that navidson's sprite not only changes when he's in the hallway but is also holding the camera, the static overlay when the Things are getting close to you... obsessed with the detail of the last area when you go down to the missing path forward but then there is no way back up...
initially i saw your playthrough video on youtube and almost went back to it after getting a couple game overs before realizing that the maziness of the entire place is the true house of leaves experience & that's exactly what i came here for and what i GOT
also just props for making this in general omg. very cool of you to have taken the assignment of "translate any text into something visual" and chosen house of leaves for it of all things. i'm aware i'm commenting like 3.5 years after the initial release but if you were to ever pick this up again that'd be absolutely amazing! <3
& one thing i've noticed is that the game breaks + gets stuck on the maze pattern menu background when you try to load an empty save slot anywhere (main menu or game itself), no buttons worked for me and i had to exit out </3 makes sense since it's not intended or something you think of when making a game, but letting you know anyway! :D
wowowow! this was super cool! absolutely love the way the house looks, it's a bit similar to how i had imagined it when i had read the book, it's a pretty cool feeling! :-)) i've always thought of how much i'd love to see House of Leaves portrayed in a movie, video game, cartoon, graphic novel etc etc and it's sososo cool seeing that brought to life a bit! i'd really love to see a full game for this one day!! overall, really great work, i loved the art, the effects and the atmosphere! thank you for making this! i hope you got a great grade on it <3
Absolutely excellent work. I love how the house on Ash Tree Lane is portrayed!
My only criticism of the game is that having the hide mechanic bound to a button was a bit unnecessary. I got stuck for a while since I initially thought just standing in place would suffice for hiding.
This is an absolutely awesome tribute to House of Leaves, albeit a bit on the short side. Aside from some graphical depth issues, the visuals are beautiful and incredibly fitting for the game's inspiration, and the effects such as the intro and VHS static are also really good. The music/ambience is also really fitting, especially in the labyrinth and the buildup of noise and static as you approach the static entities (I don't know what they're supposed to be). I'd love to see this made into a more "proper" and full experience some day. Only gripes I have is that dying due to the static entities sends you back to the main menu causing you to have to go through all the dialogue to get back to where you died and retry.
this is really sweet of you, thanks! i really appreciate the feedback. i think with the main menu on death i was imagining use of the save feature, but it's probably not too utilized for a game this length... good input for the future, though!

Otherwise all around great work!
Great game, I liked the atmosphere and all the realistic elements in the dialogues. I also would love to play and extended version of this!
thank you so much! maybe i can add onto it at some point, i have a longer script i had to scrap due to time
